The Main Street Scholarship

With a minimum $80,000 award applied over four years, The Main Street Scholarship at Capital allows students to prioritize their student experience rather than be burdened by financial barriers. Designed to provide financial support to students and families, The Main Street Scholarship is awarded annually and is potentially renewable for up to eight semesters.
Additionally, for students who meet GPA, residency, and income requirements, full-tuition and fees will be awarded through the Capital Gateway Scholarship. The Capital Gateway Scholarship is not available for transfer students.
The Office of Financial Aid works with each student to put together a financial aid package that meets the need of each family. Capital is committed to investing in individuals who are committed to making a positive impact on campus, in their communities, and the world.

At Capital, we believe that education should never be limited by financial constraints. All accepted, incoming undergraduate students will receive the Main Street Scholarship, a minimum $80,000 award applied over four years. Additionally, for students who meet GPA, residency, and income requirements, full-tuition and fees will be awarded through the Capital Gateway Scholarship. Students who started prior to Fall 2022 are not eligible for The Main Street Scholarship.
At Capital, your admission application also serves as your scholarship application. There is no separate financial aid application to receive aid. If you have questions about your scholarships and financial aid package, reach out to your Admission Counselor.
International students are encouraged to apply for The Main Street Scholarship and can qualify for the minimum award. For specific questions about international scholarships, please contact the Admission office.
Each year, Capital invests nearly $50 million in scholarships and grants to assist students in their academic journey. The Main Street Scholarship is just one piece of the financial aid package. Capital offers two forms of financial aid: merit-based and need-based. Merit-based awards are offered as scholarships and grants and are based on a student’s academic performance, talent, and affinity.
The FAFSA helps Capital design your financial aid package. The earlier you apply, the more options you'll have. All students are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA to be considered for awards and aid. Each year, more than 13 million students receive aid from the Department of Education. It’s important for students understand their complete financial aid package, including The Main Street Scholarship at Capital.
Beginning in fall 2023, new undergraduate students who are Ohio residents, have a GPA of at least 3.5/4.0, complete the FAFSA, and have a household income of $60,000 or less, qualify for free tuition and university fees.
Also beginning in fall 2023, new transfer students from Columbus State Community College who are Ohio residents, have a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0, complete the FAFSA, and have Pell eligibility, qualify for free tuition and university fees.
The full-tuition and fees award is determined after all scholarships and federal and state grant aid are calculated and applied to tuition costs.
Residential status (living on campus vs. commuting from home) is not a factor of eligibility for The Main Street Scholarship.
The Main Street Scholarship can only be applied to tuition and undergraduate fees. Room and board fees cannot be paid using The Main Street Scholarship.
Residential students are eligible for additional financial aid, including the Comet Community Award, a $1,000 scholarship that can be applied toward housing and meal plan costs.
The Main Street Scholarship launched in Fall 2022. Current Capital students are not eligible for review under The Main Street Scholarship criteria.
The Main Street Scholarship promises a minimum of $20,000 annually to all accepted, full-time, undergraduate students who are entering their first year of college, including transfer and international students. High achieving students may qualify for more, along with families who demonstrate need based on income and their Student Aid Index.
Students are strongly encouraged to file the FAFSA annually. Once admitted, prospective students and families can expect to receive an individualized financial aid offer letter during the spring semester. Admissions counselors and Office of Financial Aid are available to answer any questions students and families may have.
